Quick fix for this is heat - a hot bath or shower, a heat pack or hot water bottle. If using a bath - add some epsom salts and lavender oil as the epsom salts is magnesium sulphate and this helps with muscle spasms, the lavender is calming (if you don't have any essential oil - pick some sprigs of lavender - preferably English but any will do).
Massage is really good - not only can it relax the person having the massage, but its also good for the person doing it, as there is a tendency to feel inadequate and unable to help. If you are massaging, then you are helping and in such a loving, calming way too.
Magnesium supplments are good too - these can be obtained from a health food store and again, this is to stop muscle spasms. It usually comes mixed with something else, most commonly calcium which at fragmentation stage isn't a good idea (see below). Calcium is useful in that it helps the muscles contract properly, but magnesium anything else is going to help.
** During fragmentation, the body has an awesome supply of calcium on board - as the bone is broken down off the femoral head, it is reabsorbed by the body - mega amounts of useful calcium. Using a supplement with calcium in it, should be avoided if at all possible through this stage only. HOWEVER, they still need calcium in their diets, so food that is rich in it is absolutely great and to be encouraged.
