Tormod was diagnosed when he was 7, he is now 16. We were a bit familiar with the disease as the son of my sister also has it. The first year Tormod had to stay in wheelchair/use crutches for a year and had a lot of restrictions concerning physical activity. We were lucky as he was in a school with a very nice pricipal who really took her responsibility serious. He got his own assistant in school and was given a lot of good alternatives when they had gym etc. After a year his hip were severely damaged and we decided to go for a femur osteotomy. He had a LLD of 1,8 cm and all his shoes were bulit up. This leg difference is now gone due to his general growth. His bone age has been about 17 months delayed compared to his age. He is still the shortest boy in the class. Today he lives a normal life even if he can still have pain after too much physical activity and indeed he has not a normal hip. Only the future will show if, and when he will need a hip replacement.
