Hi,
I'm Karine and just found this site. It is such a relief to read the stories about you all. I finally don't feel alone in this anymore. Some people can understand where I am coming from.
My story: Started when I just started walking about 15 months old. Kept saying that my heel hurt. Eventually (too late) they found that it was LCP and went to emergency surgery. The femural head was completely desintegrated, nothing left at that point (very severe case). They had to remove the dead bone and got metal plates between the femur and pelvis. The plates stayed in for a whole year then had another surgery to remove them. I was barely 3 at that point. As far as I can remember, I always had daily physical therapy, all the way through elementary school, never been able to run or sit easily on the floor and many other things normal kids do - plus all the stares and questions because of a foot-long scar on the side of my leg.
I'm 30 now, my femoral head has the shape of an egg added on top of the femur, I have 2,5cm discrepancie between my legs and regular pain. I have a limited range of motion but no degeneration yet. I will need a total hip replacement, it has always been the plan, but I'm hoping that I can keep my own hip as long as possible. Still hoping I will be able to carry through pregnancy, but will see when it happens.
