I have so many questions, and fears. My son, Wade, was having hip pain and started limping this past week, I took him in yesterday to our clinic, and the Dr. sent me to an Ortho immediately, we went, and were told he has Perthes. Until yesterday, I had never heard of it. We are seeing a specialist on Monday, and I am really thinking I want to take him to the Children's Hospital, I think they have greater resources...Could any of you suggest to me where I should begin? Wade is 3.

Hi Tracy
Sorry to hear your son has been diagnosed with perthes.
One thing that will most likely happen, is that you will want to have a couple of opinions for Wade, to ensure you are accessing the very best treatment available. To this end, I would go to the appointment on Monday and also seek an appointment with the Children's Hospital too.
There are some specialists that you just know aren't going to treat your child the way you wish and the only way to achieve that, is to meet a few of them.
I've organised an invitation for you to an online support group, so that you can get input from a larger number of families that are in the same situation you are. Its entirely up to you whether or not you wish to join, but it would give you a wonderful opportunity to chat with people who understand completely what you are going through and can help you put together a list of questions to ask the specialists that you will see.
In the meantime, the best advice I can give you is to start learning the terminology (look at the glossary I've got on this site) and also the FAQ's, as a lot of the basic questions are there already.
