My son was dianosed in Oct 2008, he is 6 and also has scoliosis brought on by the disease. We are in Ontario, Canada and other than physiotherapy for 6 weeks before x-mas he has not had any other form of treatment or walking aide. We have an appointment at Toronto Sick Kids on Jan. 22 we have been told that he is going to have surgery and this appt. is supposed to tell us which one. I wondered if anyone knows whether this could possibly be inherited, we aren't sure but we think my father had it but as many of you know there isn't alot of knowledge regarding Perthes thus not really giving an answer.

Hi
The specialist we see keeps telling me that there is no way that this is an inherited disorder, just bad luck that I had it & both of my kids have/had it.
I'm going to send you out an invitation to an online support group, so that you can get heaps of information from other mums going through the same situation you are and the support that they can offer you.

Thank you Donna i did receive that invitation today. I am still sort shocked at how many sites i have found and how many people are going through or have went through some of the same things that we are. The groups sure do allow for some light at the end of the tunnel.

Ok so Isaac has been in Petrie casts now for almost 5 weeks, he had the tenotomy done on January 26, 09 and he is doing wonderfully. All the stress of wondering how we were going to manage was all for nothing as he has learned how to get around on his own and does most everything on his own. I however can"t stop worrying about his up and coming osteotomy on March 3. Isaac too is being checked for any blood disorders as Dr. Alman is concerned about some underlying cause for Isaac's having Perthes. We are booked in the Thrombosis Clinic for March 4th.
