It was my 8th birthday when I was diagnosed with Perthes. At my party I done a flip onto an airbed that I thought was blown up - but wasn't. A trip to the doctor soon after resulted in being hospitalised. For the next 7 months I was on crutches and a wheel chair. I also dislocated my hip a few times during. Just before christmas I had an osteotomy. Things were fine for 2 years, the bone had grown back and they removed the metalware. From then on it got better, then after a few years it just started getting worse. I was on crutches on and off for as long as I can remember. I then had an arthroscopy in 2003, where they removed bone chips. This still didn't help and earlier this year I had another operation to fix torn cartilage etc. They couldn't fix the cartilage and ended up just removing it. I now have the signs of arthritis. My doctors want me to have a reverse osteotomy early next year, then a hip replacement when that doesn't work.
Sorry if it doesn't make sense! I'm still learning about the disease and have no idea what the future holds!
